![Bridges of Madison County, The]() Bridges of Madison County, The (1995)
IMDB rating: 7.00
Plot: The path of Francesca Johnson’s future seems destined when an unexpected fork in the road causes her to question everything she had come to expect from life. While her husband and children are away at the Iowa state fair in the Summer of 1965, Robert Kincaid happens upon the Johnson farm and asks Francesca for directions to Rosamunde Bridge. He explains that he is on assignment from National Geographic magazine to photograph the bridges of Madison County. She agrees to show him to the bridges and thus begins the bittersweet and all-too-brief romance of her life. Through the pain of separation from her secret love and the stark isolation she feels as the details of her life consume her, she writes down the story of this four-day love affair in a 3-volume diary. The diary is found by her children among her possessions and alongside Robert Kincaid’s possessions after Francesca is dead. The message they take from the diaries is one of hope that they will do what is necessary to find happiness in their lives — whatever is necessary. After learning that Robert Kincaid’s cremated remains were scattered off Rosamunde Bridge and that their mother requested a similar disposition for her own ashes, the children must decide whether to honor their mother’s final wishes or bury her alongside their father as the family had planned. Adapted from the novel by Robert Waller, this is the story of love that happens just once in a lifetime — if you’re lucky.

Are chick flicks being fair to men?
Lots of movies over time labled chick flicks or girly movies usually depict love stories and comedy.
For me though I’ve noticed a few things that is a common theme, thought.
That if men cheat they are losers and it’s ok to trash their stuff and spend all their credit cards.
If women cheat it’s viewed as soul searching so it makes it ok?
Examples,
Bridges Of Madison County,
Once again a nice guy husband is cuckolded when he goes on a trip with the kids. Did that character deserve to be treated that way? As I recall, no he didn’t. But women thought it was okay to do if the husband is a dull farmer and the new man is an exciting photographer in the body of Clint Eastwood.
American Beauty, the woman is cheating to feel more powerful and her husband is a jerk for having a crush on a young girl
Somethings Gotta Give, It’s ok for Diane Keaton’s character being unable to decide between 2 guys, one younger.
Also in many of these movies when a woman slaps a man, it’s viewed as he deserved it or a comic moment.
Men are viewed as commitment shy, lazy, don’t want children etc.
Don’t worry, I enjoy some chick flicks and I’m not taking it so serious but I think it’s food for thought.
LOLZ, its only a movie. Back in the day, women were portrayed as shrinking violets. When ever something went bump in the night, there would be the women screaming her head off. Very predictable and totally ridiculous. Women used to be cast as the ‘back up’, some guys squeeze. lolz
Once upon a time not so very long ago, it was a criminal offense for women to dress as men. So there you are crossing the untamed wilds of the USA to find and make your spot, dressed like a women. They might just as well have hung a huge sign around their necks saying ‘victim, come and get it’.
Thank goodness those days are over and people can be people and not stereo typed robots, legally forced to conform to some idiotic ruling elites norm.

They are just movies and if anybody bases their life decisions on them or takes them seriously they have a big problem.
Fair…. arguably not… But they are made to appeal to women so they put in whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

That’s why their called "chick flicks".
Catering to the (female) viewer is the goal. And it’s always fair game to throw in man-depreciating (misandrist) sub-plots.

The movie posters alone tell the story: In recent years how many of these "romantic comedies" have come out where the poster art usually has the couple back to back the man looking befuddled and out of sorts while the woman has a knowing smirk on her face and is holding his necktie or some such thing?
The message is always the same: he’s an overgrown child and oh boy is she gonna straighten HIM out in some zany way!
YECH!
If you ever see one of those movies take a look at your fellow audience members. The men in attendance are putting in their time so that when it’s their turn to pick it will be something in the comedy, action or horror genres….
